Meet Don McNeil
"Connection with customers is more relevant in a small town," says Don McNeil. That's because, in a small town, "our customers are more than just customers, they are our friends, our neighbours and our families." Because of this, Don, who is also the owner of the Oceanview Hotel, makes extra effort to ensure that his customers get professional, attentive service. "We are proud of our community and our place in it," he says.
Don has long had a spirit of entrepreneurship, born out of a desire to control his own destiny and create quality opportunities for himself and his family. Knowing that his success (or failure) is in his own hands is Don's motivation to strive to make each day better than the one before it.
Prince Rupert is Don's hometown, and his connection to the community and its residents runs deep. He has seen Prince Rupert go through a lot of changes over the years, times of plenty as well as slow times economically. He feels that Prince Rupert has reached a turning point and that things are looking up. "Those who are established will thrive with new people coming to town and those who aren't will have opportunities," Don says of the current business climate.
